Britain has decided to provide 42million condoms to South Africa before the Soccer World Cup as part of HIV prevention drive.

South African President Jacob Zuma had made a request of an extra billion, during a recent visit to the UK to meet the Queen, in a bid to meet demand of tourists during the event.

"Obviously there's a big focus on the World Cup coming up and a huge increase in the number of people coming into South Africa," the Guardian quoted the international development minister, Gareth Thomas, as saying.

The Department for International Development is reportedly set to announce the 1-million-pound funding at an emergency summit in London on HIV prevention and treatment.

He added: "The South Africans have identified themselves the need to get more condoms in place. South Africa specifically asked for British assistance and we are responding to that request."

Meanwhile, South African government has warned that 40,000 prostitutes might enter the country during the World Cup. (ANI)
